As I am about to turn 51, it occurred to me how much as changed, and stayed the same over the years...

What has stayed the same, still married to the most WONDERful WOMAN I know. She is a continued amazing and is more than half way through her probationary period as the Asst Fire Chief of District 4 in Mason County. This November her job will become permanent and we will FINALLY be able to build our own home.

Both my boys have continued to grow and have started finalizing what they want to do.

The eldest (17 y/o Nic) want to just finish HS, then go to a trade school in AZ that will grad in 2 years and he will then be a certified ASE Auto Mechanic. We have also agreed that if he can get out of HS with decent grades, we will pay for his rally race school so he can learn how to rally race. The trade school will get him the skills to make money/work on cars and the racing school will give him what he needs to enter the rally race world.

The youngest (12 y/o John, whom some of you played with in our old TF2 server) has decided upon being a Neurosurgeon, though lately he has been VERY excited about learning how to Cook. So...who knows...we might have a future MD in the family or a Chef. I have also joined us (John and I) up with an actual MMA School (Shaolin Mixed Martial Arts) and we just got our first stripes after a 3.5 hour test. Always fun to learn more/new Martial Arts. This one teaches JKD/Kali, Shoot Wrestling/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muai Thai, and Boxing. Overall a GOOD WORKOUT and just plain fun.

As for myself...about to turn 17 x 3 years in age...I have finally taken losing weight seriously and in the last 5 weeks, I have lost 30 lbs and am now below 200 lbs for the first time in over a year. Final goal is ~165 and at ~16% body fat or less. Don't really have a timeline to do this by, just want to get it done. I think/know that if I can there the pain in my knees/feet and lower back will be lessened.

I have started watching vids for the start of a new hobby and hopefully will have something to show within the year...who knows though...we all have false starts when starting anything new.

Great update, Jinx thanks -- and good for you on taking care of yourself. I am 3 yrs behind you and I think more and more about who/how I want to be at 70 or 80. That work starts NOW because it's damn sure too late to start at 70/80.

Congrats on what sounds like a happy and healthy family!

Sounds like things are going well. Congrats on the weight loss. I've been to just lose 5-8lbs for 6 months and still nothing.

Thanks for the post Jinxter. It is good to hear from you. Watching your children blossoming into adulthood can be one of the most rewarding parts of parenthood. Keep up the good work on your health. It will pay dividends in the future.

Myself, I turn 60 this year. It sounds really old doesn't it? My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary last year. Our 3 children are all adults. Our youngest son is still living at home while working and saving. Our older son graduated from college last year and is working as an electrical engineer in the government sector. Our daughter is married, has a nice career, one child and one more on the way,. And the most awesome part is I get to hang around a 3 year old a couple of times a week. I did create a monster by introducing her to video games.

Nice Grimace - my youngest has already teased me saying when he has kids, I will become "Jiichan"...I just rolled my eyes. However, introducing a new generation to all things geek is something I look forward to.

AC - yeah, health is too important to let slide as I allowed it to. Having injuries from my military service became too easy a crutch/reason to NOT workout nor watch my diet. Which, was way stupid on my part.

Mopar - are you working out, doing anything physical to go along with diet? ...or is it the other way with you, doing something physical but not watching the diet?

I can say that I'll be in far worse shape than you guys though. All that exercise talk makes me tired just thinking about it!
