The Team Fortress 2 homepage got a facelift today.

But that's not all, today starts the revealing of the first major TF2 update in quite a while, the Über Update! Today, new item sets for the Heavy and Spy are revealed as well as a new, VALVe-made payload map, Barnblitz.

The new stuff doesn't really seem exciting so far, but I'll give it a shot. Looking forward to the medic stuff, and of course, Meet the Medic, which by now, must be a 20 minute featurette.

My only issue with that is it seems every model is from the community, and there haven't been many good models submitted... (leftover medic polycount stuff is ugly). But maybe we'll get the Quick Fix medigun (nerfed in TF2 beta a couple days ago). :D

I want the detonator so bad. Better be in this update. Flying pyros are gonna be everyone's worst nightmare.

And for whiners (e.g. PARKMAD), the detonator was changed in the beta, from +20% explosion vulnerability to +20% self-explosive damage (basically a slight buff, however it reminds us that the pyro takes a lot of damage from his detonator jumps, unlike soldiers and demos, who actually take way less damage from their explosives. So basically the pyro may be able to jump, but he will have really low health for doing so. A fair trade off to me.

I agree, slip, I really want that Detonator and Quick Fix. Hope they're in this update. They are more creative than the boring +20% -20% stuff they've basically put on those heavy and spy weapons. Although I am interested in that flower the spy drops...

I agree, TF2 is unique for having very different classes. Forgot to mention that the Detonator also got nerfed, in that when it hits something, it has a TINY explosion radius, I think about the same size as the direct hit's radius (i.e. almost non-existent). It's more for inflicting fire, which is totally a pyro-class ability. Trigger detonated rounds are the same explosion radius as they always were, which is about half the size of a normal rocket's, and don't do much explosive damage, mostly only fire.

I don't think explosive jumping is necessarily only for soldiers and demos however, as their main reason to exist is to inflict damage with explosives. The pyro's detonator doesn't inflict much damage, rather it's a small AoE of fire.

Btw, day two is up, sniper and demoman get some interesting stuff! I'm going to die from that damn shield so much, I'll rage and turn into DANE.

The demo weapons seem to follow Valve's usual path of making stuff that is OP just to make them interesting, then nerf them a week later after mass QQing.

Day 2 AKA Timbuk Tuesday is up w/ new desert themed item sets. The Lawrence of Australia set (Sniper) and the One Thousand and One Demoknight's set (Demoman).

As far as the Quick-fix is concerned; since "Meet the Medic" is part of this update I firmly believe well get it this time around along with an entire new Medic set. VALVe have teased us far to much to not include this stuff.

I don't know about the Detonator though, they might save that for "Meet the Pyro". :P

I think I'll equip that sword merely just for the extra health from ammo boxes. Although that means I won't be able to get ammo from ammo boxes, that's only true if I'm constantly spamming pipes/stickies without a dispenser around.

excuse me for being an idiot, but are the shoes a straight +25hp buff, or do they just not list the downfalls of these new items?

they can't take up the sticky slot (bonus to charge = shield intended)
melee slot?
nade slot?

either way seems ugh

also the pistol? seriously?

4 shots wouldn't make it worth the weapon switch unless you knew they were at less than 10 health, damage bonus needs to be more than 15% (which is what, like 3 damage per shot even at point blank range (so I get 4 shots, and if they all hit (gfingluck with that) I do potentially 12 more damage!!!

triple jump + that new scattergun may not be like competitive level, but it's sure gonna piss off some mofos in the server :D

Yeah, Valve is trollin' because that Bonk can definitely wasn't there when the update went live. I spent too long looking at those shields to have missed it.

The pistol sounds dumb for reasons Ethan said. The bat sounds cool and usable even at competitive levels, as you rarely see a scout use his bat when he can kill faster with the scattergun at melee range. The bat tends to be if the scout runs out of shots and needs a whack to finish someone off. The new scattergun could be quite competitive, depending on how far you have to run. Can the scout also run and build up speed and sprout a racoon tail? Wup-wup-wup-wup! :D

Few people know this but in addition to being RH's premiere rocket jumper, DANE is also really good at triple FaN jumping. Now he'll be quad jumping!

Ethan, the downsides of the sniper and demo stuff don't all seem obvious. Note that the new rifle doesn't have a scope on it. I think it might be iron sights only, something TF2 has never had, but look at the model for the gun. There's no scope! The demo shoes would probably take the place of the nade launcher, so that's a big trade off.

I will be using the new scout stuff, as I have not really cared for many scout upgrades in the past. Third jump doing damage is funny, as it reminds me of platformers. I wonder what the AoE is on that jump cloud.

At this rate, every class is in store for an update this week. Come on, detonator!!

oh man I totally misunderstood that!!!

I thought the bat would affect all your weapon's speeds (e.g. scatter shoots slower and does less), but that would go against all the previously released items...I completely retract my previous statement, that BAT IS FING OP!!!! (I never use melee as scout) =O

My prediction for tomorrow is Tower Defense Thursday. Who knows, engy might get something big, in addition to medic.

I have so many spare weapons I could make everyone on RH the new weapons, probably.

Oh, and I'm calling it now: Detonator sound will be the new frying pan. Used during set up to annoy your entire team. Those who never played beta will not know what I'm talking about... just you wait a day.

I am hopeful that the medic weapons include the ability to rocket jump, cloak, and run faster than a scout.

While I hear all the arguments about low health after the jump, it will be enough health to light me on fire and use the combo airblast/axtinguisher combo to immobilize/kill me. I have said it before and will say it again, the medic's best ability is to escape and most weapon upgrades have limited the medic from making a successful retreat when your team's front line evaporates or they run or rocket jump away from you.
