Anyone every used Snap Circuits? I am thinking I might get a set for my 8 year old this Xmas and wondered what people think. If, perhaps, some one out there is a fan of them, what set would you recommend starting with? I'm looking at the 300 pieces 'physics' set and the 'light' set. Price isn't really the issue, just wondering what would be diverse, challenging and fun. Thanks! AC |

Oh! It's like an Arduino for kids, how awesome! If this is their first foray into this sort of thing, I would recommend something like the Snaptricity set, as it not only tells you how to make certain things happen, but designs experiments to help you understand why things happen, the difference between series and parallel circuits, electromagnetism and its role in generating electrical power, how two-way (not sure about three-way) switches work in your home, etc. If they've already got a feel for things like that, then one of the bigger 300 experiment sets would be a good step up, for sure! Great gift idea, can't wait till William is old enough to play with stuff like this! ^_^ |

This is way late for Christmas, but we have a snap circuit set and my son loves it. We got it when he was 6 and although some of the reading instructions are too complicated, he can easily follow the diagrams. He's a big fan of the light-sensor siren alarm project... he likes to hide it in drawers and cupboards to ambush Mom. We also developed a lego/snap circuit leprechaun trap last St Patty's Day. (The leprechaun got away but left behind a coin...) |
