Took up running exactly three months ago. Running the 13.1 mile Brooklyn half marathon this morning. Wish me luck!

Good luck!

But what is it with running these days? My wife took it up in earnest about 1.5 years ago. She's already done 8-10 half-marathons and the New York and Boston marathons (New York ended up being 6 times around Central Park; she finished Boston 3 minutes before the bombs went off). I get tired just hearing about her training.

More power to ya JD!

When I used to run (...I was a sprinter, so short distances of 5k and less is what I concentrated on and could do 5k in ~15 min 35 sec). I took up running again last year and got in shape enough to run in the Run For Your Liv3s which was the funnest 5k I have EVER run. It was more like a series of 200 - 400 wind sprints, with some SHORT breaks, before doing it again, over and over, then an obstacle. All in all, GREAT FUN! Now back to the subject of running... A LOT of people get the "Runner's High". After a undetermined amount of time (varies with each individual) where the body gets a rush of endorphins (the body's own opiates) and you feel almost euphoric. So, a LOT of runner's get "addicted". For me the High would usually kick in after 1.5 miles or so, then I could run literally forever. (Back in the day, I could run for about 2 hours or more straight through...)

After I rehab my back AGAIN, I do plan on running again. I have a race to get in shape for my the end of summer here in the NW.

Finished in 2:14 - 10:15 seconds per mile, a record for me (as you can see, I'm not at all fast but I do enjoy it!)

Good work! Or great fun! Whatever you feel it is. When I worked out I did 5mi in the morning and 3 to 5 in the evening. Loved it. Then my knees gave out for good.

Don't sell yourself short AC, 10:15 is fine for someone doing it for fun. Just doing 13 miles straight of anything is really physically and mentally taxing. When I did maintenance in the distinguished visitor houses on base I would walk about 15 miles a work day, and I was pretty beat by the end of the day.

Congrats, and keep at it!
