I'm conflicted about this....I'm worried that they will release a Star Wars movie that rivals John Carter in quality...but Disney also owns Marvel and those have been pretty good. Disney please put George Lucas in a padded cell and get a great director for this new movie, I can not take another horrible horrible trilogy (EP. 1-3)

That's exactly what I was thinking - little Lucas involvement, mixed with the success Disney has had with their Marvel and Pixar purchases makes me hopeful. I'm curious to see if they use some of the stories that the Star Wars novels have explored. Personally I'm hoping that they start with the Thrawn trilogy, even if they wrap it up in one and then move on.

Don't screw this up Disney!

How about NO Lucas involvment. They should just skip whatever plan he might have been mulling for the last 30 years and just do the Thrawn trilogy.

This is Star Wars VII, and the Vong came later then Thrawn in the timeline (which I think started or at least became popular with Thrawn right?) so you have to do that first.... ;)

Just to clarify - I want NO Lucas involvement - I meant that since he sold the rights to Disney, his involvement will likely be little (hopefully none). :D

Update:

Disney announces in an investor conference call after today's announcement that they intend to make more than one new Star Wars movie, beginning with Episode VII in 2015 followed by Episodes VIII and IX "every other year" and then "we'll go from there."

Crazy - I'm not especially surprised, but still... almost too much good news for one day lol.

Damn, I'm going to have to dial back my George Lucas hating a bit.

THR wrote:
By the end of the year, the $4.05 billion sale of Lucasfilm to Disney should be finalized. And since George Lucas owns 100 percent of his company - which has little to no debt - all that money goes to him. After that, Lucas plans to quickly put the bulk of the money into a foundation which will primarily focus on educational issues, a spokesperson for Lucasfilm tells THR.[...]“For 41 years, the majority of my time and money has been put into the company,” Lucas said in a statement Wednesday. “As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy.”

Say what you want about Jar Jar, that's a damn classy move.
