A Game of Thrones starts as the first book in A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. It's also in audio book form AND it has turned into a tv series on HBO. Season One is finished and coming out in a boxed set, so it's not too late to get caught up with the tv series. I have watched the first four episodes and my husband is listening to it on audiobook right now. Great stuff!

the HBO series was a tremendous success (I watched them all as they originally aired and loved them). Season 2 starts in April 2012 so it is, by no means, too late to catch up. It's extremely well made TV and great story telling for people who liked complicated stories with large casts and unpredictable stories.

It has a "fantasy" element to it but don't let that put you off, my wife hates all things Dungeons and Dragons but this is really a character drama that happens to be set in a world where the rules are slightly different than ours. She really enjoys the show, it's appointment TV for us.

I was hesitant when I heard it was going to be made a T.V. series, as I'm a big fan of the books. All that worrying for nothing... fantastic show, fantastic cast. You hardly even realize it's a fantasy show, it just damn good television.
