I have three additions to the beer list to recommend (in separate posts).

1) Hoegaarden (Original Belgian White Ale)

I'm a lager girl and not fond of ales, but this one is quite delicious. It's made with Coriander and Orange Peel, which I didn't think would do the beer justice, but it's tasty. My husband claims that it doesn't have the "bitter" after taste that normal beers have.

2) 1664 Blanc by Kronenbourg

It is a flavoured wheat beer with a fresh & fruity taste to it. Tasty, smooth beer and there is a pleasant fruity kick to it for the after taste.

*Warning* Careful you americans, this beer punches in with 5% alcohol content ;-)

You can see that this bottle comes in a unique purple-blue colour.

3) Unfortunately, I don't have a picture or a specific description of this next beer, but it's the best beer that I have ever tasted. I ordered it at a restaurant in town called New Asian Village (they have 250 different beers in stock plus all their other alcohol). It's an Indian lager called Mari. It has the crispness and a delicious balance of a cider (think of the kind with alcohol, not apple "juice") and yet it has a smooth refreshing taste of beer as well. I'll see what I can do to find out more because it is absolutely worth a taste!

are you sure you've got the name right? i searched high and low and there's nothing by that name. is it a lager from india or an IPA? I found a list of Indian beers but couldn't find anything close to Mari.

It's from Pakistan not India.

I'm going to call them and see if I can find out over the phone. If that doesn't work, then I'll be there on Valentine's day with the family, so I'll be hunting for it then as well.

This thread better get some great drunken updates this Saturday. I've got a couple more reviews coming in and they are fricken fantastic and like nothing you've ever treated your tastebuds to before!

Beers with balls! :burpdrink:

Yep, these two beers are irish and they actually do have balls. The ball is called a floating wigdet and it activates once you open your can. Beware that although it delivers a great foamy head, I'd recommend opening this up over your sink.

The obvious recommendation for an Irish beer is Guinness Draught. I doubt I have to say much about the bitterness of this beer, but the widget inside of the can (not sure if they do the same in bottles) does make it a lot smoother.

Image

The other beer is Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale. It's like a lighter version of Guinness. The foam is plentiful and really does make if feel, well, creamy. The taste is not strong at all in this one, so it's worth a try. It's not something I would get again, but it is an alternative for special occasions like today because it's a very light and smooth Guiness-alternative. Again, open this over the sink because the widget foams a LOT!

I've always felt Guinness literally tastes better the closer you are to Ireland. I think it doesn't travel as well as other drinks, I have no idea why though.

Next up are these two beers, which don't have balls, but they'll assault your tastebuds with unique flavours and then kick your ass. Just because.

First up, is Heartstopper Hot Chocolate Stout. I've tried other beers with mention of chocolate, but was always disappointed. This beer does not disappoint. At all. It's bursting with delicious chocolate flavour as soon as it's in your mouth and has a wicked kick, thanks to cayenne in the ingredient list, after you drink it down. It's too bad that we don't have much snow here anymore because this would be my "hot chocolate" after skiing, tobagganing, etc. At 7.5% alcohol, drink responsibly.

Image

Next up on the list of unusual but very tasty beers is Blackheart Oatmean Stout by Nelson Brewing Company. It's got a good smoked flavour and scent to it, like being at a camp fire. Nothing strong tasting in this one, but it's still unusually tasty. It has a 5.7% alcohol content and I'd love to drink this while eating homemade Maple-Bacon marshmallows at the campfire this year.

I've been a big fan of Kilkenny since I had it on a trip to Ireland a few years ago. Like Guinness, it's a bit better over there, but still decent here. Even made a side trip to Canada to get some a couple years ago before they started distributing it again here in the States.

This one is in my top 10, and almost always has a presence in the beer fridge...

Wow, my "top 5" list is going to have to change to my "top 10" list. Here's another fantastic beer to add to the collection. It's dark; it's smooth, it really does have maple flavour to it!

I bought a bottle of whiskey and a bottle of whisky over the weekend. I have opened up the former so far and it is delectable, but still need to open up the latter.

The first one I purchased was the Jameson 18 Year Old Limited Reserve and so far it is highly recommended.
Image

And the second one I purchased was the Royal Salute 21 Year Old. I will be opening it a little later this week, but am looking forward to it. It came with a nice wood lockbox so I'll take a picture of it since I couldn't find it on the internets along with a thumbs up or down when its opened.

I can attest to the fact that the Jameson's is awesome...very smooth drinking whiskey.

Have not opened the Royal Salute yet, but here are the pictures of the bottles. For some reason I forgot about the Jack until recently so I added that to the final picture. Seems like the Royal Salute is a lot rarer than I thought it was, if anyone has had it before let me know.
