My son is getting back into pc gaming, and is pondering buying some gear from a friend. Thoughts? The bundle includes: Core i5 4670 16GB DDR3 Corsair 760GTX 128GB SSD + 2TB backup Corsair Obsidian 350D with Corsair liquid cooling Windows 8.1 750 Corsair psu
Priced at $850. Or any suggestions for a 5-600$ build, using some of the above.
Our household is wireless where his room is, so I am trying to convince him not to get carried away because the bottleneck will be bandwidth, unless we run a loong stretch of cable or get powerline working...
Thanks in advance!

for the price I would switch out the processor for a Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5GHz LGA. its about $5-$10 cheaper and is the newer version and does not have the built in graphics
as for the rest of your list its hard to say as you don't have a mobo listed and the liquid cooling that comes with the case we have no info on. when it comes to liquid cooling you have to be careful of the AIO units even from big brands like corsair as not all AIO liquid cooling systems are good.
also taking in consideration that case retails fro about $79 by itself and with your budget and depending how much they are trying to charge you for that case with the liquid cooling it might be best to go to air cooling and put the money else where

Thanks Matrix. After reading that, and giving more thought, and my concern about SSD and water cooling on the budget, we might try a simpler cheaper build using some pieces we are scrounging up, built around an Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard, GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB video card, 3GB RAM, all enclosed in a nice, roomy, air-cooled Antec case and Antec 500 watt power supply. I know this is pretty ancient stuff, but hopefully will be workable for some rudimentary gaming experience. I think we need a lot more memory, but pretty sure this mobo maxes at 8GB. Thoughts on resurrecting this relic?

Thanks again! Tangential question: All the different color WD drives, do you have a quickie guide? I know it depends, but for the small subset of usages for the average user, what colors are best?

Thanks. Very helpful. But I notice they don't talk about the purple ones... guess those are pretty application specific...
