Our wireless router seems to have dropped some of its range, and has also been struggling to keep up since we moved to a bigger house. The cable coming into the house is in one corner of the basement, and we need a solid connection two floors up and on the other side of the house. I don't need it to do anything fancy other than the ability to NOT broadcast our SSID. P.S. Saw the previous post, but kicking off a new one, since the requirements seem a bit different. |

I would go with asus all the way they have a wide aray of models and pricing and the software that comes with it is easy to use and highly customizable , I have been using 1 of their cheapt $40 wireless N router for the last 3 years in a 1500sqf apartment with no problems and now im upgrading to one of their wireless AC models. most if their higher end router use a AI radar that detects where your devices are and trys to focus the signal to those devices so the question is what is the price rang you are looking for wireless N models RT-N65U DUAL PROCESSOR $117(highly recommend for wireless n) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6833320131 RT-N56U $94(basically the same as the 65u but single cpu) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6833320062 RT-N66U $139(probable best wireless N router you can get ) wireless AC router RT-AC56U $159(this is the one im waiting to get) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6833320167 RT-AC66U $189(one of the strongest routers out there) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6833320115 also something I always recommend being that I work for a local ISP here and listen to people complain of poor wifi performance is if you have an android phone or tablet is download wifi analyzer(its free) and see if your router is sharing the same channel as other wireless devices, if show change the setting on the router from auto to a specific channel that is not being used and has less interference |

Thanks, Matrix. Willing to spend a bit more to get a decent router that will (hopefully) last a while and 'grow' with additional tech purchases. I'll take a look at the RT-N66U and RT-AC66U. |

Keep in mind the average life span for most router is 3-4 years just like modems and that avg being either tend to fail in that time or become outdated |

That should be good timing - other than maybe an iPad we're not planning on any new tech purchases for a couple of years. Ended up going with the RT-N66U. We'll make the move to ac with the next one. |
