So, I have the iMovie app to create some custom movies to send to relatives.

Took a series of pictures and videos from our recent trip to Great Wolf Lodge ( http://www.greatwolf.com/grandmound/waterpark ) with my waterproof Kodak camcorder ( http://store.kodak.com/store/ekconsus/e ... .169976100 ) . Loaded them up on the PC. Movie format is *.MOV

I cannot sync the movies to the iPad as it says it is an unsupported format. I can stream it (file sharing from computer) and play it fine, but cannot get it onto the iPad to cut up and join it with other movies.

What is the most idiot-proof, easiest way to convert the movie formats so I can load it up locally on the iPad 2 ?

And then once a movie is created, I can obviously rip it onto a DVD or CD, but what about converting it to something to play on a DVD player ? Or will it already be able to play on a DVD player ?

Thanks for any information you can provide on any of the parts of the question.

that's my favorite free video conversion program. it handles most all formats and outputs to most all formats -- you should be able to find a format that works on the ipad 2 (I think it does mp4 format, which is native).

I use DVDFab to do a proper conversion to M4v but that's an expensive program with lots of settings,.

You can try FFMpegX, at http://www.ffmpegx.com/ which is a freeware app for the mac of the universal freeware FFMPeg project (which is available for multiple platforms). It works pretty well on the Windows side, but I have not tried the Mac version.

Its a pretty straightforward app.
