I never finished the training as it was glitched back when I bought the game. Does it have some of the 'advanced' stuff like quick counterattack off a parry, combination attacks, etc? There are some videos on YouTube which give advanced tips but I haven't had a chance to watch them yet.

As far as I know, some weapons and/or attacks are better suited towards certain classes. Slashing a bladed weapon at armor is less effective than thrusting it into armor (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). That's pretty cool since it promotes a real undertanding of the weapon(s) you're using. There's only three options for melee weapon attack (thrust, slice, overhead), but knowledge of how to use each weapon most effectively against each class really adds depth to the game. And now they're introducing left-handed attacks lol?

I find when I really tell myself to focus in battle, I do pretty well. If I just go in all guns blazing I'll usually get sliced up by decent players.

Some tips offhand in case you weren't aware:

-You can run with your shield held up. Good for rushing archers. Also good in general if you have to cover a lot of distance in an open area.

-Knights can use a sword one-handed while equipping a shield, but not the axes or polearms.

-RMB is default mapped as feint along with q. Took me a little while to figure this out, but it's much easier to right-click out of an attack then to reach for that damn q button.

-I forget the key that Man At Arms has mapped for dodge, but double-tapping your move key (wasd) will also dodge. Still a little tough for me, but better than reaching for a mapped key.

-Siege/fixed weapons can be operated by both teams. On the 'kill the peasants' map, I've done good work against the other team by using their catapult against them at the castle wall.

-A mod provided some binds on the Chiv forums for changing mouse sensitivies. I've heard that archers benefit from low sensitivities while the other classes benefit from higher ones. I haven't tried this yet but it makes sense, as long as you don't get stuck as an archer fighting melee.

Just kidding, but here's what I think:
- if it works for you, do the practice, tutorial. Carl, it does teach you advanced stuff like stabbing to not only pierce armor, but using either stab or overhead to get around shields. It also lets you target practice as an archer, and learn the angles easily.
- Hkness goes guns blazing and often tops the scoreboard due to people not thinking he'll just keep swinging a giant axe AT HIS OWN TEAM TOO.
- I love using Man At Arms one-key dodge. I hate double tapping and wish you could turn it off but you can't. I just lowered it so it doesn't accidentally trigger but it still does. I use a button on my mouse to dodge, as to not disrupt my WASD movement.
- Right clicking to feint is easier than using Q, but Q is dedicated and right click is not. Sometimes it will swing a 2nd time instead, whereas I believe Q always feints.
- I use twitch TF2 Huntsman-style aim as an archer so I don't need to lower my sensitivity. In Chivalry, you can shoot an arrow even while jumping. Get good at this and really screw with people!

Beta 2 is out now for the first major content update, so things are progressing well and we might have a couple new maps, weapons, duel mode and optimizations by the end of the month! I honestly can't get enough of Chivalry, it's like gaming crack.

Chivalry FREE WEEKEND!

That means anyone can install the game and play it for free till Sunday at 1pm PST. Why does Valve end it at such a strange time? I think it adheres to GMT, but why they care to adhere to that when they never do for anything else but free weekends, no one knows.

I've downloaded and am firing it up.

Content update will probably arrive Thursday or Friday as it's currently out of beta and in Release Candidate iteration 2, plus the stated goal of the devs was to have it released in January. Major updates include new weapons, new maps, duel mode, alt attacks, server browser fixes, admin interface updates and game optimization.

Judging by Earl's server sig (which I've also adopted on the Chiv forums), our server has been full most of this past week. I'm trying to up my admin presence there so players get a taste of how RH does things and we can get a good batch of regulars. Handed out a few bans last weekend to some dummies. I personally haven't seen any admin presence on a public West Coast server the whole time I've been playing, so it'd probably be easy for us to stand out and attract some cool peeps on a regular basis. Just an fyi.

I'm loving duel mode! Even though the challenge UI is a bit weird, I love being able to duke it out mano-a-mano with no distractions in a mini arena.

Argh, server is online but doesn't show in the browser, and I can't connect via console Open command. Other server operators have experienced similar issues, so I posted in one of their threads requesting dev input and support for this: http://www.chivalrythegame.com/forums/v ... 72&t=10282
