If you're a fan of old pc RPGs, this is for you! I work for Obsidian, btw, so this is not 100% not self-promotion. We're doing quite well though, after only 14 hours up. Watch the video for some chills and thrills. I'm in the big group shot.

I actually heard about this through the kickstarter newsletter and had already kicked in $20 before I read this. I'm glad to support anything that promises to be similar to the style of Baldur's Gate and NWN2.

This makes the 3rd thing I've supported on kickstarter so far this year (the others were Ouya and Oculus Rift), and I've been eyeballing some of their non-game humanitarian stuff as well. There are some really neat projects on there to fund!

Hehe nice, although Ouya and Oculus Rift were two I am very much against funding.

We'll see how Ouya goes, but I don't think it's as revolutionary as the creators nor the backers seem to believe. I think it's a useless Android box (I love Android phone and tablet stuff) and it'll just prove to be a another dust collector. While the idea of an open console is good, the Ouya's graphics power is equal to my current phone. That's fine for a phone, but a console on a tv?

I really hope the Oculus Rift and other devices like it take off. But the kickstarter was a money sapping ploy. First of all, you had to kick in a few hundred bucks to get anything, and that anything was that you'd get a development kit (not the retail product). But really the worst part is that the Oculus Rift is created by very very rich people who already finished the device. The kickstarter was a ploy to get money from people for something they already finished, and already have the financial backing of some major players. There's only one place the kickstarter money is going, and that's into the dev head's pocket for his 4th lamborghini. I'll buy the final device, but the kickstarter was a completely unnecessary move to just get money for something that most people kicking in money (if you didn't put in the few hundred required) will get nothing out of. It's already made.

If the above sounds like "hey, I'll gladly donate to an interesting product" then that logic is about the same as kicking money to Nike for making cool shoes. The money doesn't go toward a new shoe. You're just donating money to Nike. You only donated money to to get the head guy a new car, or maybe a new house. It doesn't help make the Oculus Rift any better because that thing is already done.

I've backed other stuff on Kickstarter, but I think right now it's still new and people are not doing the research necessary for most of the things up there. Some just use it as a marketing device and as a bonus, get an extra few hundred grand donated to them without much to do on their end.

As for Obsidian, this will give them their first original IP, which will go a long way to helping them become free from the shackles of publishers and the stranglehold publishers have over contracted developers. It's been a long time coming for them (I say "them" since they've been doing this a lot longer than I've been working for them. They deserve it).

As a LONG time player of Obsidian titles, I HAD to donate $ to this project. I cannot wait until this is released...finally an M rated RPG! When I read about this on Kotaku, I knew this would be the first Kickstarter I would do. Then I saw your post here, so, thank for the additional heads up.

Thanks, Jinxter!

Only 1 day to go! The final stretch! Make sure you take a look again at all the stuff we added. You may want to add stuff to your pledge, or move to another tier with different rewards you hadn't seen before. Help support a game that couldn't exist without your help!

I mean, look at this screenshot! It's the actual game! (without HUD and characters)

I would highly recommend pitching in if anyone enjoys this style of game - the base point of entry is really cheap all things considered. That and I want them to reach 3.5m so we get big, big city #2 :P

Woot! How awesome, the folks at Obsidian must be thrilled with the community response to their kickstarter. Still 6 hours to go!

They had one, but it looks like they were so unprepared for how much they would blow past their goal that they had to come up with it on the spot.

After much team deliberation we have one final ultimate stretch goal. At $4.0m we will be enhancing the whole game. We will use live instrumentation for the soundtrack, add developer in-game commentary, and use every dollar between $3.5m and $4m to enhance the game. Also at $4.0m Chris Avellone will be forced to play Arcanum.

Yep, the people paying via PayPal pushed us well over $4 mil. It would've been nice to have it show on Kickstarter, but it's cool, we definitely hit the $4 mil stretch goal, so all that's going to be done as well!

I'm resurrecting this thread from the dead to give the folks at Obsidian (Gel) a shout out, a pat on the back, and a big thank you. This game, which is now known as Pillars of Eternity, was everything I hoped it would be, and is by far the best thing I have ever backed on Kickstarter. Not only do I love the game, but so does the rest of the world - Pillars is a 90/100 on metacritic, a 9/10 on IGN, and media outlets globally have had nothing but praise for it.

If I had a single complaint, it would that my wife tried it, and won't let me play now. She has well over 100 hrs. played now, while I'm somewhere around 40!

Because I figued Irm was getting some kind of kickback :P I went and read some independent reviews of Pillars and they are pretty awesome. So BRAVO , sounds really well done.

Oh cool, thanks! I haven't visited the RH forums in a while (save for the TF2 section).

We've got more good stuff coming out soon, so I hope you enjoy!

YKI! The game was so good that I ended up backing the card game too, which looks like it's coming along nicely.
