Star Wars: The Old Republic Security Key Blunder

Fri Jan 06, 2012 6:00 pm

Just a fair warning for everyone - I was using the security key software on Android (HTC Evo 4G), and it was working great.

Last night, I flashed a new ROM on my phone, so I had to do a phone wipe after backing everything up. So I restore the key app from backup, and it wont run, so I clear the data to see if I can just reenter it. Catch-22 right here - to get an activation code, you have to log into your account online, BUT to login online, you need to enter the security code that would have been generated by the app, but you can't enter one since you can't start the app in the first place.

So I e-mailed BioWare that night, and had not heard back from them. So I decided to call the support line. Fortunately, I only waited a minute to get a live rep, and I told him my situation. It sounds like this is happening quite a bit, and they currently DO NOT have a solution. They basically have to remove the security key from your account, AND YOU CANNOT AT THIS TIME RESTORE IT! You can login, but you will not have a security key and will not be able to generate a new one (you will still use you password, but will not have that extra security layer.)

The rep said they are working on a fix, but could not guarantee when (or even if) they could restore security keys. So be real careful not to lose that key generator!

That's why you haven't been on in a while...Fubar and I were wondering where you have gone. I have the collector's edition and my security key is a physical device I keep at my desk. I had downloaded the app, thinking I could use that as a backup, but couldn't even get the app to load as I already have a physical key. Could you purchase the physical key?
