So my son has really gotten into Minecraft - he's played on my ipad for a while and I finally gave in and bought the PC version.

Do I have to own 2 copies of this game to play with him on our LAN? Seems like I can login with the same account twice and play but if we try to connect to the same LAN world I get a 'name is taken' error and it dumps me out.

Yep, you need two accounts. The server phones-home to verify users, even if it's a LAN server.

Now you know why it's one of the highest grossing indie games ever.

Tori is playing this game a TON! Maybe if the time works out ok they could get on a server together sometime and she could show him around.

anyone have a minecraft game account they don't use? my son wants to play 2 player...

I also don't think the ipad version is cross-compatible with the pc version, meaning you both have to be playing on two different pcs, not one on ipad, one on pc. Unless they added a new feature. I haven't kept up on minecraft news in a while, even if I do still run the two RH minecraft servers.

Since I host the servers from my home computer, the IP sometimes changes beyond my control. I try to post the latest IP address in this thread.

You connect by going into Minecraft and choosing Multiplayer > Direct Connect. Copy the IP above and paste it into the game (Ctrl + V).
