Just like many topics in the world there are no right answers and no wrong answers (well there are wrong answers like the Halo theme song) when it comes to videogame music. The majority of videogames have had music, with Pong having the first noise and Space Invaders being first in background music, but I was wondering what is the greatest or best (your choice) song to be heard from a videogame.

I'm going to think about if this is my favorite videogame piece of music, but as a starting piece I am sure no one will say this is the worst song of videogame history:

I always enjoyed the moodiness of the background music in Privateer. Various cracked C64 games used to have pretty cool entry music during the 'cracked by' marquees too.

Picking one game is pretty hard though. GTA3 + have always been well done I think.

Jagged Alliance 2, man I played this game for like 12 hours straight once and am pretty sure I had a seizure or some kind of motion sickness:

After creating this thread I thought for sure someone would post a song I have in mind, but no one has so far. In my previous post I was wondering why no one had posted a particular song I had in mind (well it was actually any song from a series). So I ask all of you now, why are all the Mario songs not even considered by the Renegade Heroes community to be one of the greatest videogame music pieces of all time??

I was playing Donkey Kong Country 2 the other day and reminded me how amazing the music was in that game. I don't know what makes it so good but here are some songs from the game:

I have a hard time picking a favorite, though it's probably between the opening from Final Fantasy VIII - 'Liberi Fatali' (my favorite game in the series), and Aerith's Theme (the fully orchestrated one).

In my opinion Donkey Kong Country 2 has one of the greatest soundtracks of all time and ocremix.org has released an amazing album remixing the music in the game into many, many different styles. You can download the entire album for free here: http://dkc2.ocremix.org/

An fyi about this album it has taken the ocremix community 2 and a half years! to complete this album so hopefully that will indicate how amazing this is.

I found out not enough people are playing cave story right now and need more of a reason to download (for free on the pc/mac!) the game. So hear is one of my personal favorites "On to Grasstown" by StudioPixel (who did everything else in the game too):
